Welcome back to the grind! Head of the Port was a great first early race of the season. The race was held on October 10 at the Port of Sacramento and hosted by the River City Rowing Club. With prime racing conditions, all boats had an excellent showing throughout the day on the 5000m course.
Congratulations to the Novice 8 who won their first race. With little to no expectations from only having three weeks of training under their belts, the boys stepped up and accepted the challenge.

Both Varsity doubles pushed aggressively down the course and took 2nd (Luke Mourton- Jr, Jason Huang- Sr) and 4th (Adrian Panezic- Soph, Warren Chang- Jr) place, keeping their stroke rates high.
The Team fleeted two Varsity 4 boats for the race. The A boat had a critical breakage 2000m into the race, which prevented them from continuing. The younger B boat found their flow and had a good technical race.
A Boat:
C: Tyler Boswell - Sr.
4: Alex Kaiser - Soph.
3: Zane Zimits - Jr.
2: Isaac D. Gomez - Sr.
1: Gavin Chang- Soph.
B Boat:

4: Navarre Shaikh- Jr.
3: Joseph O'Donnell- Soph.

The Varsity 8 showed good effort with half the boat composed of sophomores. Being a younger boat, there’s still much room to grow and find that next gear of speed.

After our long hiatus from racing, Head of the Port was the perfect catalyst to kick off the season right.
