The Padres entered the final week of the regular season nearing the finish line and looking toward the baselines of the WCAL tournaments. On Monday April 17, JV completed their season against St. Francis on the road losing 2-5, with their two wins accredited to Eli Miguel and Jonathan Barker. Despite the loss, JV played admirably and demonstrated the best of Serra displaying good sportsmanship throughout the match.
Varsity played on Tuesday, April 17, against Valley Christian also on the road. Serra lost 0-7, but the score doesn’t indicate how competitive those matches truly were. Serra regrouped and hosted St. Francis on their final day of the regular season. The Padres improved, highlighted by No. 2 Ben Lipeles' straight sets victory(6-1, 6-1). Despite being edged ever so slightly by a 3-4 score, they played their hearts, trying to “slice” every serve they could. With the regular season now over, Varsity is ready to retighten their focus and the grips on the rackets as they begin their WCAL tournaments on Wednesday, April 26, at Cuesta Park.
Serra will need all of its energy in order to sustain the rallies they will have to endure at this all-day event. They certainly are capable and the school wishes the team the best.
