WCAL Championships at San Jose City College on May 5 started on a high note for the Padres. Luke Lewis won the boys' shot put with a big PR and CCS leading throw of 55-3.25. Jay Leder finished third with a PR of 45-10.75. Both qualify for CCS next week.
The Padres swept the 4x1's. Both team's best times. Varsity (Igtanloc, Harrison, Olson, Green) - 42.64. FS (Yoon, Barrett, Moeckel, Vinson) - 44.37
Luke Lewis came through on his final throw with a PR to finish second in the discus - 137-9. Taniela Folau finished fifth, but also qualifies to CCS with his throw of 133-8.
Peter Olson took second in the 110HH (14.72) and was WCAL Champ in the 300 IH (39.27). Both were personal bests!
Padres go 1,3,5 in the varsity 400 - Harrison (48.88), Joudieh (50.82), Igtanloc (50.99)
Chris Yoon had an incredible night. Adding to his gold from the FS 4x100 relay, he won the FS long jump on a tie breaker by 1/4 of an inch, won the 65mHH (9.45), and fourth in the 100m (11.58). All marks other than the long jump were personal bests.
Padres go 1,3 in the 200m. Harrison broke 22 (21.94) for the first time, despite rain falling. Green (22.45) also qualified for CCS next week in the 100m on time.
Jermaine Barrett sprinted his way to a second place finish in the 100 (11.47) and third in the 200 (23.57). Both personal bests.
The Padres in the frosh-soph 400m crossed the line 3 (Labrador - 53.55), 4 (Castricone - 54.28), 5 (Buret - 54.52).
Freshman Joey Bronzini had a very strong distance double in the 800 (2:08.93-fifth) and 1600 (4:48.25-seventh, top freshman).
Padre 4x400m relays nearly swept the bookends of the track meet. FS team (Labrador, Buret, Castricone, Barrett) finished second with a season best (3:38.44). Varsity team (Igtanloc, Joudieh, Green, Harrison) came away from a great battle with the win (3:26.71).
It was a solid night all around for Padre Track & Field. The Varsity team finished second and the frosh-soph Team finished third. CCS Semifinals are next Saturday at Gilroy High School with berths into CCS Finals on the line.
