SAN MATEO — To say that Terence Loville is athletic doesn’t do justice to his impact on the gridiron. The two-way player on the perimeter for Serra is a highlight waiting to happen.
“In my mind, when it’s just 1-on-1 and I see the ball in the air, either I’m coming down with it or no one is coming down with it,” Loville said.
“Terence cares a lot, very athletic, shows a lot of heart,” Serra defensive end Nusi Malani said. “He never gives up.”
Still growing into his 6-foot-1, 190-pound frame, Loville finished his junior year with 31 catches for 589 yards and seven touchdowns.
Hungry for more, he spent the offseason working on man coverage as a cornerback while polishing off his route definition as a wide receiver.
“It’s really uplifting that everything is going to pay off on the field when the first whistle of our senior season hits,” Loville said.
“His ball skills are some of the best on the team right now,” Serra coach Patrick Walsh said. “Obviously a lot of big catches and with the work he’s put in the offseason we’re hoping that when any 50/50 ball that’s up in the air Terence comes down with it.”
A three-star recruit, Air Force provided the 17-year-old with an early birthday present in the form of a scholarship offer. Within 24 hours, New Mexico was next in line.
“Just very exciting,” Loville said. “My first offer came a day before my birthday, so all of that really hit me very fast and I was just blessed and so grateful for it to come.”
Asked for his goals this upcoming season, Loville promises max effort with the hope of reaching the ultimate endgame.
“I’ve been thinking about it and I’m just trying not to take anything for granted this year,” Loville said. “Just go all out every rep … and state or bust.”
